FALAFEL

Falafel
Falafel is a deep fried ball or Patty made from soaked and ground chickpeas,fresh Herbs and spices.
This is a popular vegan food in Egypt and through out the Middle East.

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1 cup Chickpeas, soaked overnight and drained dry (not pictured)

  • ½ Onion chopped 

  • 5-6 cloves Garlic

  • 1-2 Green chillies

  • 1/4tsp Red chilli powder

  • 1tsp Cumin powder

  • ½ tsp Coriander powder

  • ¼ tsp Black pepper

  • ½ Lemon juice

  • 1tsp Salt

  • Large bunch of coriander leaves

  • 2 Spring onion ( not pictured)

INSTRUCTIONS:

  • Add the chickpeas into a food processor

  • Add coriander leaves and spring onion 

  • Add onion and green chillies

  • Add cumin , coriander, red chilli powder and salt

  • Add lemon juice 

  • Grind everything together ( coarse mixture)

  • Leave mixture in fridge to chill for 15-20 minutes 

  • Grease your hand slightly

  • Shape smooth balls. You can make round falafel or disc shaped ( around 14-18 falafels) 

  • Heat oil for frying falafel 

  •  Deep Fry falafel on med heat. Don’t stir the falafels too much. You  can shallow fry the falafel patty too as I’ve done.you can also air fry these falafels.

  • Once they are golden brown on all sides , remove and place them on a paper towel.

  • Your crispy and delicious falafels are ready
